  • Endorfun Clone
    Wednesday, June 04 2003 @ 06:11 PM EDT, Matthew
Here's a clone of a little-known game called Endorfun. This is another older project--I did it while beta-testing Dev 2.5--so it'll be a few days until I dig out the source and clean it up for posting.

The goal of the game is to roll the cube (arrow keys) onto colored tiles so that the same color on the cube lands face-up. A little confusing at first, but fairly intuitive after you get the hang of it. There isn't much of a game here; no success state, failure state, and just one test level.

http://www.muridaemassacre.com/tests/cube3/Virtools.htm to check it out. I'll post the source composition sometime over the weekend.

    A Note on Physics
    Wednesday, June 04 2003 @ 05:05 PM EDT, Matthew
A majority of the experiments that I'll be posting here will use physics. I have no idea what percent of the Virtools user base has access to the physics pack. Even without the pack, though, it is possible to open a composition that uses physics BBs to look at the schematic in a non-interactive fashion (I should be posting source for the existing examples sometime soon). Designing gameplay around physics systems is a personal fascination of mine, but I'll try to post as much non-physics content as I can.

    Smallball
    Tuesday, June 03 2003 @ 10:31 PM EDT, Matthew
Again, here's a post for the benefit of the search feature (as it's fairly old). This started off as a learning project to bring a friend up to speed on using Dev. However, it proved hilariously fun, so a bit of polish was added to make it more complete.

http://www.muridaemassacre.com/tests/smallball/ for the playable versions and instructions. The AI provides some entertainment, but do yourself a favor and flag down a friend/neighbor/whomever to give the two-player version a try...you might be suprised.

    Freefall Experience Gamelet
    Tuesday, June 03 2003 @ 10:27 PM EDT, Matthew
For the benefit of the search feature, here's one of the older experiments:

On Saturday, I and two friends went skydiving. We decided beforehand that it'd be an interesting exercise to make a gamelet based on some aspect of the experience. One of my friends going skydiving was just out for the weekend on a visit, so we created this on Sunday afternoon:

Control is relative mouse motion (ignore the mouse cursor position) or arrow keys. The mouse is much more flexible. To move, continuously and slowly move the mouse in the desired direction to hold a gliding angle. For more maneuverability, try flipping over onto your stomach. The prototype is obviously artless right now, but the planned treatment is a story about a turtle who takes a year to climb a tree in order to jump off and knock down fruits.

And BTW, I highly recommend skydiving to anyone who might be considering going sometime. It’s insanely surreal, and an awesome experience (click here for our pics--didn’t pay for the video, so just have what was taken from the ground)

    Ugly, But Working
    Tuesday, June 03 2003 @ 10:22 PM EDT, Matthew
I realize the current design is fairly sparse; monochromatic, ugly, lacking, whatever. When I have some more time I might give the lab a makeover. For the time being, though, this will do plenty fine.

    Geeklog Ready for Action
    Tuesday, June 03 2003 @ 07:26 PM EDT, Matthew
Finally got around to configuring a portal script for my DevLab idea. I hope to post some tidbit, experiment, or example here every few days (time permitting).
